During our grant period (2004-06), we are concentrating on two things:
The Texts menu at the top of the page allows access to the tables of contents for texts that have already been put online, such as Decameron (testing text from the Decameron Web) or Esposizioni. The TOC entries are linked to their respective contents. Please bear in mind that our work on the texts is still a work in progress. At any time the texts may look strange or fail to load. If you encounter this problem for more than a day, please let us know!
It is our hope that in the future, people will use VHL to display and annotate their own texts. The current few should be viewed as test cases. Nevertheless, the work being done on them in this testing stage is of scholarly quality.
We are also in the process of building indexes to these texts, as evidenced by the Apparatus menu at the top of the page. There are only a few available for now; we will be adding more soon. Since index verification is a process that requires more time and able minds than we have available, at the moment we are merely compiling the relevant lists and linking them to their occurrences in a given text. For verification help we are turning to the community – if you have not heard of this by some other means and wish to get involved, please choose an index you like, read the note at the top and jump right in!
This document contains information relevant to those interested in annotating texts using the in-text annotation engine, and/or discussing them on the forum. The Guidelines for Annotation explain how to get involved with the project and explain how to use both interfaces.
